Hawley Green

The Brief
Hawley Green began with a brief that perfectly captures the aspirations of many contemporary Tasmanian families: a modern interpretation of the traditional barn-style home, with a focus on creating a comfortable, functional, and sustainable family home that would meet the needs of a modern family today while having the flexibility to adapt to changing needs over time.
The beachfront location at Hawley Beach — one of Tasmania's most sought-after coastal communities — elevated the stakes. This home needed to respond to its extraordinary setting with sweeping private views of the ocean, while also providing shelter and comfort in the face of coastal weather. The design team at Adams Building Design rose to the challenge, creating a home that takes full advantage of its position while remaining practical and liveable.
What makes Hawley Green particularly significant is its multi-award-winning status — recognition from both Master Builders Tasmania and HIA at state level, including the coveted Kitchen of the Year award. These accolades validate the meticulous attention to detail that defines every aspect of the project, from the structural engineering to the final coat of finish.

Site & Exterior
This home takes full advantage of its beachfront location, with sweeping private views of the ocean and plenty of natural light flooding every living space. There is ample room for entertaining and relaxation both inside and out, with features such as the covered outdoor area providing shade and protection from the coastal elements.
From the first glance, you'll be struck by the home's elegant and detailed exterior. The Monument Colorbond cladding provides a durable, weather-resistant skin in a deep, sophisticated tone, while the Blackbutt shiplap adds warmth and organic texture. Overland bricks ground the building in its site, their weight and permanence providing a counterpoint to the lighter cladding materials above. Together, these three materials create a perfect blend of contemporary style and rustic charm.
The 'popout' cantilevered window is a standout design element — projecting from the upper facade, it adds a sculptural quality to the elevation while creating an inviting, warm entry experience for guests. The outdoor stairs, screens, gates, and panels have been fabricated with the same care as the interior joinery, adding to the overall beauty and durability of the exterior design.

Interior
The interior of Hawley Green is equally impressive, with every material and finish selected to balance beauty with durability — essential in a coastal family home where sand, salt, and children are part of daily life. The flooring in bedrooms, robes, study, and stairs features a luxurious and comfortable carpet, while the kitchen, dining, living, and adjoining hall showcase beautiful and durable Tasmanian Oak overlay flooring.
The reclaimed Tasmanian Oak ceiling in the living room is a showstopper — each board carrying the character and history of its previous life, creating a ceiling plane that's warm, textured, and utterly unique. This kind of material salvage requires patience and expertise: each board must be de-nailed, inspected, dimensioned, and carefully installed to create a surface that looks effortless but is anything but.
The kitchen deserves its award-winning status. Clean, modern lines are complemented by beautiful Tasmanian Oak accents that tie the kitchen back to the living room ceiling. Premium appliances, generous storage, and a layout that supports both everyday cooking and large-scale entertaining make this the functional heart of the home. The attention to joinery detail — the precision of the mitres, the alignment of the grain, the smooth operation of every drawer and door — reflects the exceptional craftsmanship that Davies brings to every project.
