Davies Office

The Brief & Vision
An innovative, engaging, and functional new headquarters for Davies Design & Construction — that was the brief we set ourselves. When we outgrew our previous workspace, we saw it as an opportunity to practise what we preach: to take an existing building and transform it into something that embodies our values, showcases our capabilities, and creates an inspiring environment for our team.
The former pottery building in Sheffield presented the perfect canvas. Its industrial bones — generous ceiling heights, robust structure, and honest materiality — aligned with our design philosophy. Rather than demolishing and starting fresh, we chose to honour the building's history while reinventing it for a completely new purpose.

Design & Transformation
The new exterior cladding is transforming — a bold statement that signals the building's new identity while respecting the scale and character of Sheffield's main street. The material palette references our residential work: the same attention to cladding detail, the same commitment to clean lines and considered junctions, the same belief that buildings should contribute positively to their streetscape.
Internally, the fit-out succeeds as both a showroom for materials and as a showcase for the construction skills of our building team. Every surface, every junction, every detail is an opportunity to demonstrate the level of craftsmanship we bring to our clients' homes. Visitors can see and touch the same materials and finishes we use in our residential projects — from timber species and stone benchtops to tile selections and hardware.
The office layout is designed around collaboration. Open workstations for the design team encourage communication and idea-sharing, while meeting spaces are equipped for client presentations — large screens for design walkthroughs, material sample libraries within arm's reach, and comfortable seating that encourages unhurried conversation about what a home could be.

Materials & Detail
The finely crafted interior fit-out demonstrates the range of skills within our team. Timber features prominently — from the reception desk to shelving systems, each piece custom-designed and built in-house. Metal accents, exposed services, and industrial lighting reference the building's former life while creating a contemporary, energised workspace.
The kitchen and break-out area is the social heart of the office, designed with the same care as a residential kitchen. Perhaps most importantly, the Davies Office serves as a living portfolio. Clients visiting for the first time can experience first-hand the quality of our work — the precision of our joinery, the thoughtfulness of our detailing, the way we select and combine materials.

Recognition
The transformation from pottery building to award-winning office demonstrated that our commitment to craft and quality extends beyond residential construction.
