What Is a Business MAP?
MAP stands for Meaningful Alignment Plan. It's a concept Luke Davies developed over years of running Davies Construction — a single-page document that captures the complete DNA of a building company.
Think of it this way: imagine you're on a road trip without knowing the destination. Even with a GPS, you'd still be lost — because you don't know where you want to go. That's how it is for many businesses. They start without a clear direction, and the team, the culture, and every decision suffers for it.
The Business MAP is the antidote. It gives every member of the Davies team — from site supervisors to apprentices — a clear, shared understanding of why we build, how we build, and who we build for. And as a homeowner choosing a builder, it tells you exactly what kind of company you're trusting with one of the biggest investments of your life.

The Davies Business MAP — our one-page Meaningful Alignment Plan
Two Parts, One Clear Direction
The Business MAP is structured in two key parts. Together, they give you a complete picture of who Davies Construction is and why that matters for your home.
Part 1: Foundational Elements
These are the core DNA of the business — set by Luke as the founder. They don't change with projects or market conditions. They are the bedrock.
- → Purpose
- → Values (GROW)
- → Vision
- → Philosophy
Part 2: Organisational Elements
These are the operational elements that bring the foundation to life. The whole team contributes to shaping these, creating genuine buy-in.
- → Who We Are
- → Our Principles (14 Lean Principles)
- → Our Mission
- → Brand Maxims
- → Our People
Our Purpose
"Guiding homeowners to improve their quality of life and the health of the planet through the construction of quality buildings."
Purpose is the why behind everything we do. It's not about building houses — anyone can do that. Our purpose is about improving your quality of life. Every design decision, every material choice, every conversation we have with you is filtered through this question: does this make your life better and contribute to a healthier planet?
Our Values — GROW
Values are the behavioural guardrails for every person on the Davies team. We use the acronym GROW so everyone can remember them without a poster on the wall.
Get Better Every Day
Continuous improvement isn't a program — it's a daily habit. Every team member is expected to find ways to improve, no matter how small.
Respect for People
We treat homeowners, trades, suppliers, and each other with genuine respect. Relationships are the foundation of great building outcomes.
Own Your Actions
Accountability without blame. When something goes wrong, we own it, fix it, and learn from it. When it goes right, we share the credit.
World-Class Quality
We don't build to minimum standards. We build to the highest standards we can achieve — because your home deserves nothing less.
Our Vision
"We see a future where every building is making the world healthier."
Our vision is our long-term destination — the future we're working toward. It's ambitious by design. We don't just want to build good homes; we want to shift the entire industry toward buildings that actively improve human health and environmental wellbeing. That's why we pursue Passivhaus certification, high-performance building science, and healthy material choices in every project.
Our Philosophy
Davies Construction is, at its core, a continuous improvement company that happens to build homes. Our philosophy rests on three pillars:
- ●Respect for People
Every person on the team matters. We invest in our people because great homes are built by great teams.
- ●Scientific Thinking & Problem Solving
We don't guess — we observe, measure, test, and improve. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn.
- ●Learning & Sharing Knowledge
Knowledge hoarding has no place here. When one person learns something, the whole team benefits.
This philosophy is heavily influenced by Lean Construction principles and our work with Michael Bonney from Productivity Improvers and People Improvers in Burnie, Tasmania. Luke took the entire Davies team to complete Michael's simulated work environment — a two-day workshop that fundamentally changed how the company operates.
Our 14 Principles
Adapted from the 14 principles of the Toyota Production System, these guide how we operate day-to-day. For you as a homeowner, they translate into a smoother build, fewer surprises, and better quality.
Our Mission
"To make a profit by building high-quality, healthy, unique dream homes and development projects."
We're transparent about profit — because a healthy business is the only way to maintain the team, tools, and training needed to deliver exceptional homes. Our mission keeps us focused: we build dream homes and development projects. Not everything for everyone — just what we're brilliant at.
Our Brand Maxims
Brand maxims are the daily behaviours our team lives by. They're not corporate slogans — they're practical reminders that shape how every person on a Davies site works, communicates, and solves problems.
Our People
Our Team
Collaborative problem-solvers committed to continuous improvement and exceeding expectations. Every member of the Davies team embodies our GROW values, drives innovation, and raises the bar for the entire company. We hire for alignment first and skills second — because skills can be taught, but values are who you are.
Our Clients
Homeowners seeking exceptional, healthy homes built to the highest standards. People who value quality over shortcuts, who want transparency over guesswork, and who understand that a great home is an investment in their family's health and happiness. We also work with investors looking for land and development opportunities.
Why This Matters for Your Home
You might be wondering: why should a homeowner care about a builder's Business MAP? Here's why.
When every person on the build team — from the site supervisor to the apprentice to the plumber — shares the same values and understands the same purpose, the result is a fundamentally different building experience. Decisions are made consistently. Quality doesn't depend on who's on site that day. Problems get solved proactively, not reactively.
The Business MAP is the reason Davies can offer fixed-price contracts with confidence. It's the reason our team spots and solves problems before they become costly rework. It's the reason clients consistently describe their experience as "smooth" — because behind the scenes, alignment is doing the heavy lifting.
When you choose a builder, you're not just choosing a price or a timeline. You're choosing a team, a culture, and a set of values that will shape every square metre of your home. The Business MAP is our commitment to getting that right.
