Story
The Client's Brief was for a small 2 bedroom, retirement home in a rural setting.
Passivhaus principles were used to create an energy efficient home with 8.8 stars.
Energy
- PHPP: heating demand 14 kWh/m²a
- Steibel Eltron heat recovery ventilation
- PV: covers total energy use & exports more to grid than is used in the home
- EV car charging in garage
- Sanden heat pump hot water
- Reduced footprint to minimise embodied energy
Materials
- Brick cladding for longevity & low maintenance
- Thermal mass: trombe walls & slab
- Triple glazed timber-aluminium composite tilt/turn windows
- Solid hardwood timber joinery
- Permeable and airtight, highly insulated envelope
Future Proof
- Accessible throughout
- Oversized gutters for expected stronger rainfall
- Bushfire proofing to higher BAL than required
- Low maintenance and recyclable materials
