The Story

The Site
Positioned on a challenging, steep slope in an established neighbourhood, Pen-Y-Bryn responds directly to its unique topography. The design works with the natural fall of the land, navigating level changes and preserving the mature greenery that defines the site. Building here required precision and care; we utilised specialised scaffolding and cranes to lower expansive window panes into place, ensuring the existing trees remained untouched. The result is a home that feels deeply anchored in its setting, balancing a sense of privacy with open vistas of the surrounding landscape.

The Exterior

The Interior
Inside, the home unfolds across multiple levels, connected by a seamless flow of light and high-end finishes. The spacious, open-plan living areas are highlighted by a rich palette of timber wall paneling and custom joinery that follows the site’s natural elevations. Comfort is built into the very foundation of the home, with a decoupled slab and hydronic heating ensuring a toasty atmosphere year-round. The heart of the home features a functional, designer kitchen and wet areas that showcase artisan curved tiling, creating a cohesive and visually pleasing environment that promotes a sense of tranquility.

The Materials
In keeping with our commitment to quality and sustainability, we hand-selected materials that offer both durability and timeless character.
Walls: A combination of Bowral Bricks and vertically laid spotted gum cladding.
Timber: 19mm kiln-dried spotted gum shiplap used for external accents and internal features.
Performance: High-performance Pro Clima membranes and extensive insulation Batts were engineered into the frame to maximize energy efficiency.
Finishes: Custom 6mm powder-coated aluminium details and bespoke timber joinery throughout.
